"It normally starts with dark spots appearing in my vision, after these have disappeared a pounding headache starts to slowly build and, unless I can take my pills straight away, it continues to build until it feels like my head has an internal hammer banging away. I just want to go and hide away in a dark corner. If I am lucky I will manage to sleep the worst of it off, but even so I feel really drained the following day."

Almost all people will have a headache at some point in their lives and many have them regularly. Migraine on its own affects around 10% of the population in the UK - that means around 6 million people. Despite this, migraine often goes undiagnosed and is seen as 'just a bad headache'.

Here we have gathered some information about headaches and migraine, including a little self-test to see if you have migraine and some fact sheets on a variety of topics. Finally, we also have links where you can find out about other charities dealing with migraine and headaches as well as other online resources. We also have a number of videos.

There is a list of recent publications available which includes pieces aimed at both medical professionals and the general public.
