Dr Giles Elrington

Dr Giles Elrington is a Consultant Neurologist with particular subspecialty in both headache and multiple sclerosis. He received his MB BS from St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1980 and a MRCP (UK) from the Royal College of Physicians in 1983, passing on his first attempt. In 1987 he gained the title FRCP from the Royal College of Physicians and later in 1990 qualified with an MD from the University of London.
As well as working at the Centre, Dr Elrington is a consultant neurologist for Barts and The London NHS and Southend University Hospital.
Dr Elrington has been involved with National Migraine Centre since 2007 and has spoken at many of our educational events for medical professionals. He is an outstanding public speaker, in demand nationally and often internationally, recently having spoken in Korea and Germany. He is also an experienced educator in the subject of headache, with a popular training video “The three minute neurological examination” for GPs, available on You Tube.
Dr Elrington has published a number of research articles and book chapters about migraine and neurology for healthcare professionals. A list of which can be found here. He is a former treasurer of the British Association for the Study of Headache (BASH) and on the Executive Committee of the Anglo-Dutch Migraine Association.
He has an excellent record of clinical activity with a uniquely detailed database of all neurological patients he has seen since 1994. This has enabled him to constantly monitor his practice and show up trends in headache. He has taken part in numerous clinical trials, most recently into closure of patent foramen ovale and the use of botox for migraine. He will be leading similar research projects at the National Migraine Centre.
